“May he give you the desire of your heart and make all of your plans succeed,” Psalm 20:4

David prayed for you.  He prayed that God would give you the desire of your hear and make all your plans succeed.

Wow.  It’s funny how our plans today are not the plans we had for ourselves so many years ago, even sometimes just days or hours ago.  We are so unworthy, but God gave us our assignments.  He gave us our desires.   And, He will make sure our desires succeed.  Our definition of success is not necessary His definition of success, but it will be successful.

Don’t be scared about the desires that God has placed in you that you don’t understand.  Just follow God; He’s got it all figured out.

“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord endures forever – do not abandon the works of your hands,” Psalm 138:8

No matter what we do or others do to us; no matter what we think or what others think about us; God will always fulfill the purpose He has for us.

He loves us and He wants His glory to shine through us.  And, He will always fulfill His purpose that He has for us.

He loves us forever and ever.  And, He will not abandon the works that He is doing through us.

Can’t wait… It’s the weekend and I can’t wait.  Weekends are for weddings.  I am so excited for all of the brides and grooms.  New marriages made in Heaven and taking place right here on earth.  The guests get to wear a party dresses and heels.  Not the tennis shoes and sweats that are my weekly uniform of choice.  With six children, I must have stain resistant clothing on at all times, especially things that can be washed in my washer and dryer.  No dry cleaners for me.  Children spill milk, waste syrup, and touch you with dirty, filthy hands – and all of those things get on my clothing.

Let’s not talk about that but more about the weddings.  Oh, weddings, I love weddings.  Weddings are new beginnings.  Weddings are when new entities are formed.  Weddings are just beautiful and lovely.  The most intimate relationship one can have is in marriage and that starts with a wedding.  This threefold institution (God, husband, and wife) is joined together spiritually by God, legally by covenant, and physically upon consummation.  For this reason alone, everyone should understand wedding traditions.

When you enter the wedding ceremony, there is usually an aisle with a runner down its center.  Most weddings use a white runner.  Because God is in the midst of all weddings (He created them), the venue is considered Holy.  The runner symbolizes Holy ground.  The wedding party is walking on Holy ground for the covenant ceremony with God.  Oh by the way, so are you when you enter.

No man should be dragged, shot-gunned, or threaten into marriage nor can someone make him.  Why?  The groom is the covenant initiator.  He enters the ceremony first to signify this fact.  The covenant initiator has the greater responsibility to see that the covenant is fulfilled.  That means God holds the husband responsible for the marriage, y’all.  For instance, God initiated the covenant with Abraham and Jesus did the same with us for salvation; therefore, they are responsible for the covenant to be kept. The groom enters the ceremony first to signify that he is the covenant initiator.

One of the most precious bridal accessories is the veil.  The bride has agonized to find the perfect one.  A veil signifies the sanctity and exclusiveness of the marriage covenant.  Marriage is only for the three of them (God, husband, and wife).  Veils are to physically separate the bride from the groom which indicates God designed the physical relationship to happen in marriage.  After the vows are completed, the physical separation can cease which usually happens with a kiss.  Remember, when Christ fulfilled the covenant of salvation (dying on the cross), the veil in the temple was ripped (taken away).  This allowed us to have a deeper relationship with Him.  Also, when we become saved, we are no longer on the other side of the veil from God.

Notice during the ceremony that the bride and groom hold hands, especially when the vows are exchanged.  The holding of the hand is such a sweet gesture.  Did you know that the open right hand symbolizes the strength, resources, and purpose of a person?  So, that means that by holding each other’s right hand, they are pledging these things to each other.  God gives us His saving strength with His right hand.  During the marriage, the bride and groom can depend upon the “open right hand” of their spouse to enhance and support the covenant relationship.

Many people wear wedding rings once they marry.  When you marry, you are no longer your own.  The husband is his wife’s, and the wife is her husband’s.  God places the two of you together for each other.  The ring symbolizes the transfer of authority, strength, protection, and identification.  Ever look into the sky after a storm and see a rainbow.  Well, rainbows are the symbol God used to remind all about the covenant established with Noah.  When viewed from the sky, a rainbow is a circle.

Some people believe that signing the guest book is just so the bride and groom know where to send the thank you notes.  But, this is one of the most significant traditions.  The guests are very vital to the marriage. They are more than the people who buy the gifts, eat the food, and dance to the music.  They are the official witnesses to the covenant.  Throughout the marriage, they remind the couple of the covenant that was made on their wedding day because they were there too.  God encourages the couple to keep their marriage vows through the guests who were at the wedding and heard them pledge.

So many different things happen on the wedding day.  But, the most important is the marriage covenant made with God.  Wow, wedding days are glorious days.  Angels are singing because a new entity is formed which glorifies God.  The enemy is angry and God is joyous.  And, the guests are to be witnesses.  I am so excited, I can’t wait.  Of course, that’s why all I can say is THANK YOU GOD!

“For the Lord will vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants,” Psalm 135:14

We are wronged.  We do wrong.  We wrong others.  We are in a state of woe.  We are lowly.  We feel unworthy.  Others feel that we are unworthy.  But God will vindicate us.  And, He will have compassion on us because we are His servants.  We are one of His people.

We don’t have to worry about if our prayers will be answered.  We don’t have to worry about if the blessing will come.  Both are coming and in the affirmative.  We just have to stand because God vindicates His people and He will have compassion for His people.

So, don’t worry God got this all under control.  So, stand and praise Him for who He is and for being your vindicator and compassionate Lord.

Oops!  I forgot that it is almost Friday.  How could I do that?  I mean Friday is a great day.  It’s the end of the week.  I can lay down my burdens, enjoy my family hang out with friends, and even do some of the things I want to do.  I can sleep late.  I can go shopping.  I can ignore chores, go to the movies, and grab something to eat.  Isn’t it just great that I can do whatever I want?

Me, me, me, me!  I was raised in the me generation.  Have it your way at McDonalds or was that Burger King, I can’t remember.  But, I learned to have it my way anyway.  I know what I want and how much I need.  Bow down and give it all to me.  Look, it is always me first, second, and third.  I want, I need, I have, and I get.  It’s all about me. Yay, me as my friend London Tipton says.  Ok, if you know who she is you watch way too much Disney Channel, like me!

Oh boy, I can hear Him now.  My child, it is not about you, it is always about ME!  Oh no, that was the big ME not the little me.  That was God the Father calling out my name.  That was Jesus Christ, His son calling out my name.  That was the Holy Spirit calling out my name.  They have reminded me, again, that it’s not about me.

God designed us to worship and honor Him as we walk in this Christian life.  Every moment of every day, everything we do is in honor of our Creator.  And, throughout our walk, we are bound to come across other folks.  These other folks are supposed to experience more of God through us.  He does not want us to be isolated and alone.  He wants us to have companions to walk beside us.  And, He made the perfect institution for that very thing – marriage.

One of the reasons God created marriage is so that we can mutually complete one another.  In Genesis 2:18, “…the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”  God never intended for any of us to be alone.  In the very beginning (it’s in Genesis – the beginning), He made sure that we did not have to walk through the deserts, valleys, hilltops, plateaus, and mountains alone.  He wanted someone who would be truly apart of us.  Just after this miraculous event of forming another human, God did another miracle; He performed the first marriage ceremony.  He made married peoples y’all.

Yes, good ‘ole marriage.  Marriage is designed to address those aloneness needs.  Those needs when you just want someone to talk over things.  Those needs when you need someone to hold you when the world has tried to defeat you.  Those needs when you want someone to laugh at your stupid jokes.  Those needs when you want to feel real good, I mean real good (catch my drift)!  God in His awesomeness knew that self-centeredness would destroy us by hurting us deeply and messing up our walk with Him.  God saved us from ourselves.  When we are one with someone else, true human oneness can only happen in marriage, we will experience true companionship.

That is the beauty of marriage – to know that whatever you do someone has your back.  In fact, that person will not just stand back and let you fight but they will jump into the ring for you and beat the person up.  When you come home at night, they are waiting for you to get home.  The person sleeping next to you wants you to snuggle under them.  God knew it – He knows it!  We need others to be human – to express our humanity.  God says in I Corinthians 11:11, “Nevertheless neither is the man independent of the woman, neither the woman independent of the man, in the Lord.” And, so, God designed the perfect person for you to fulfill your interdependent need – your spouse!

Now, that I remember it is almost Friday.  I am so very glad because it’s the beginning of the weekend.  Now, I can stop being everything to everybody (i.e., my boss, my co-workers, the man who pumped my gas).  In peace, I can really look across the room and stare at the beautiful and handsome man that is there.  And, guess what, that beautiful and handsome man is mine y’all.  And, for all that I can say is THANK YOU GOD!

“he restores my soul.  He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake,” Psalm 23:3

God restores our souls.  When our souls get all messed up, God restores them.  No one, nothing can reach and restore the soul except God.  One might think it’s the love a parent, child, friend, animal, companion, spouse – but its God only who restores your soul.

When your soul is being depleted when you are low- your soul is restored by the Lord.  God restores your soul because you are His righteous people.

And, he guides the paths of His righteous for His name’s sake.  So that He does not lose face with the world.  So His glory may shine.  So that all will know how He is.  He loves you and wants your best for you.  So, allow Him to restore your soul and guide your path.  You can’t go wrong.

So, this week is quickly coming to an end.  But the ending of another week doesn’t make the world stop for me.  I can’t get off this train, its still going.  With all of the people in my family, we almost always have something going.  Someone has a game, swim meet, dance lessons, meeting… you get the picture.  In our home it is what do we do now?  Where do we go?  Who do we see?  When do we have to be there?

We are going in so many different directions at once that sometimes I can’t remember my name.  Has that ever happen to you?  Someone ask you your name and you draw a blank.  When this happens to me, I go through everyone’s name in my family… yes all 7 (including the hubby) and still can’t remember the name my parents gave me.  I have to check my driver’s license to make sure who I am.  That is just pitiful… just pitiful.  I should at least remember my name.  I mean come on I am not that old.  But, here I am in the middle of the department store and can’t remember my name.

But you know what?  God remembers me.  God always knows who I am, what my name is, what he calls me, and whose I am.  God never forgets that His son, Jesus paid a price for me and I am His and His alone.  God remembers I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a confidant, a lover and I could go on.  He remembers me and all that I am.  And, He remembers every assignment, testament, situation, temptation, and blessings that He has set before me.

God has called us to manage His creation and have authority over it.  In Genesis 1:28, God says to us “multiply and fill the earth and subdue it; you are master of the fish and birds and all the animals.”  God made this beautiful and wonderful world for us to do with it what we wanted.  He allowed Adam and us through him to name all things in this realm (now you know why your friend has that awful name).  He allowed us to manipulate it, change it, add to it, and take away from it.  God wanted us to enjoy this oasis of fruitfulness that He created.

God doesn’t want us to give up and forget about our assignment to subdue this world.  He did not want us to fall prey to what the world would try to do to us. Sometimes it gets too hard to subdue the world.   And, that’s because we are trying to do it by ourselves.  God never sets us up for failure.  He wants us to succeed.

And, one of the first steps that He wants us to do in our call of managing His creation is remembering the God who created it.  Once we realize it was the Father of Heaven who created the earth and all that is in it, we will reverence the Creator by treating it well and praise God for its sustenance.  Just think the world is the right distance from the sun so we don’t burn up or freeze to death.  The oceans do not run over all the land.  The moon doesn’t collide with us at night.  I even think about we can walk around this sphere without falling off into space.  I mean I serve a great, awesome, powerful God.

Many of us are not tillers of the ground but we don’t have to be to fulfill the call of subduing the earth.  Just by living God’s principles threatens Satan’s power in the earth.  Showing spiritual leadership in our homes first before doing it anywhere else and demonstrating oneness in marriage shows that we are willing to manage God’s creation.  This shows that there is no one greater than you but God (that scene in Roots is so right on –holding the baby up to God).  God has placed all things under our feet because we are His children.  God wants us to stop letting other things get into the way of what’s important.  And, what is important is serving God the way He called us.

God wants us to remember we are more than conquerors.  We have the authority to subdue here on earth and be masters over it.  He wants us to remember the things that He has place in our hearts– our call, assignment, and blessing.  He wants us to know He is there to walk with us through it all.  There will be times He will carry us.  It is all designed by Him.  And, He knows who we are deep down and more intimately than we know ourselves.  He remembers us and never forgets our names.  And, for that I can truly say “THANK YOU GOD!”

“Let them praise the name of the Lord for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens,” Psalm 148:13

Don’t stop praising the Lord.  See His name alone is exalted above anything and everything.  His splendor – everything He created, the blessings, gifts, precious artwork, and artifacts (His creation is the most perfect piece of art ever produced – is all over.  Don’t forget that.

Don’t forget who He is.  Don’t forget He made you.  Don’t forget He placed you right here and is clearing your path for you.  Don’t forget that He is directing your path all for His glory.  Don’t forget He is the one in control.   And for all this and many more reasons, you should praise Him, now and forevermore!

“Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations” James 1:2

Found myself thinking about a statement by Charles Swindoll, a favorite Christian author of mine that I stumbled upon today. It says “Perseverance: willingness to accept whatever comes, strength to face it head on, determination to stand firm, and insight to see the Lord’s hand in it all.” Quite a good mantra to live by, but I find that it’s not the appreciation of such thoughts that we have difficulty with, it’s putting it into practice. Yet it can be done. Strewn throughout the pages of the bible are many people who changed defeat into victory and their trials into triumph. And in today’s word, James shows us that this same experience can be ours. So how do we accomplish this you ask?

Well we obtain our first key in the above verse, “consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations.” Do you notice that James doesn’t say if but whenever, an assumption that as Christians we will experience trials or adversity. Therefore, we shouldn’t be surprised when adversity comes our way. Albeit, no one is ever prepared for the loss of a loved one, illness, divorce, job loss or catastrophes that turn our world upside down. This is what James means by “various trials” – these things are often times out of our control, and we are susceptible to them simply because we are human.

Jesus Christ who is our example told us to expect trials as well. (1) Because He also experienced trials even though He was the Son of God. (2) Through His death on the cross He made a way for us to walk in victory through our trials. Jesus said “in the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration: but be of good cheer! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and I have conquered it for you.]” Herein lies another key to remain joyful in the midst of the distress and frustration – Christ has deprived it of power; it cannot harm you even though it might appear so. And this is not meant to minimize your pain, pressure or frustration. But the devil would like us to believe that we are defeated. Still Christ tells us “I have conquered it for you.” So if it has been conquered [notice past tense] then it means that we can walk in victory. It’s already done!

Further, 1 Peter 4:12 tells us that some tribulation come to us because we are Christians. “Beloved, do not be amazed and bewildered at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test your quality, as though something strange (unusual and alien to you and your position) were befalling you.” I am learning in my walk that if the people in the bible had to deal with tribulations so will I and you. For the ways of God does not change, all His children must past through this road if they are to mature.

So what is to be the Christian’s response? The Christian must “consider it wholly joyful!” Whoa, this is like taking medicine, doesn’t always taste good going down but it is beneficial to your health. Sister and Brother Christian this is the attitude we are called to take and this is what the above statement speaks to. The willingness to accept whatever comes. We are not alone, the apostles, Esther, Elijah, and Christians before us also had this attitude. Therefore the other key to walking in victory through trials is to immediately thank God and adopt a joyful attitude. “But how, we may ask, we cannot perceive how it is possible to rejoice in the midst of adversity?”

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord,” Psalm 150:6

Wow. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  I lost a favorite cousin today and this is the verse that touched me.  Not the ones I suspected about down trodden hearts or a hurting heart, but this light, life breathing verse and verses.  Praise the Lord.

He had a beautiful life.  Praise the Lord.  He is now free from pain. Praise the Lord.  He is completely free.  Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.

Where there should be sadness I can only praise the Lord. In my sadness, I can praise God.  Wow.  I wish I could have seen him on this side one more time.  I wish the process had been slower.  But nevertheless, praise the Lord.
